Welcome to the S2 Rota Climate Change Blog.
Computing Departments element.
Each department will teach a group of pupils for approximately 10 weeks, then the pupils rota onto the next department. The departments involved are: Art, Business Education, Computing, Technical Education. By the end of the academic year all pupils will have spent time in each of the 4 departments.
Each class will be divided into 4 groups. Each group selects a main topic area.
The 4 topics are:
Energy.
Transportation.
Plants and Animals.
Home.
As pupils rotate around the 4 departments, pupils will study a different topic in each of the departments. Each department will deliver the same 4 topics but with a emphasis reflecting the skills and expertise of the staff found in each department.
Once pupils have selected a topic you will tackle the problem from 4 specific angles.
1. What is Climate Change and what are the possible causes of it, especially relating to your own group topic?
2. Headlines:- Using all available news media sources, gather up headline topics and give a brief summary of the headline. These will be related to your topic.
3. Solutions and preventions:- What can be done to prevent Climate Change occurring? again this should be related to your particular topic.
4. A presentation of your findings e.g. a PowerPoint or Photostory or Voicethread etc.
The completed presentations will be uploaded onto this blog at the end of the course.
In order to help pupils, the computing department has decided to focus your enquiries on a specific aspects of each topic.
thus….
For the Energy Topic:
The environment issues surrounding the building of Windfarms versus building 2 or 3 more Nuclear Power Stations
For the Transportation Topic:
What will be the best way to transport people around in the future In order to reduce the effect of climate change? e.g. Compulsory car sharing, car free city centres, more and cheap public transport, bigger but fewer airplanes
For Plants and Animals (including crops and birds) Topic:
The impact climate change is having upon plants, animals across the world e.g. melting polar caps, reduction in rainforest’s, and the lack of natural drinking water ( e.g. Australia )
For Home Topic: How can we improve on our lifestyles int he home so as to become more eco-friendly? ( recycling, smarter household appliances, fewer trips to shops)
We hope all pupils will have fun and learn, but it is important that pupils do their own research and bring into school resources and ideas that can help them produce their own ideas that interest them. We don’t want to tell pupils what to do, but help pupil’s develop skills that will allow them to become more effect learners.

Hi all…….
I was sitting here thinking about how our Comenius application was progressing in all our relative national agencies. I wonder how long it will take to cross check all our applications.
Anyway while we are waiting, have a look at this link from Wayns videos referring to Global Warming. After you play the video a series of other climate change videos appear at the bottom of the player screen.
cheers for now…
